Mercedes-Benz has recalled certain examples of the AMG GLE 43 and AMG GLE 43 Coupe as the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine may shut off unexpectedly.

The affected vehicles have a faulty software that may cause the engine to shut down in specific driving scenarios. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the vehicle’s transmission may downshift improperly when decelerating, leading to an insufficient engine speed that may cause a stall. The engine may also shut off when accelerating following a start in the vehicle’s ECO mode.

If the engine shuts off, the driver will be notified through warning lights on the dash. However, if the engine stops while traveling in traffic, this could increase the risk of a crash, Mercedes says, which is the leading cause for the recall. According to the NHTSA, 12,322 vehicles are affected. Owners of affected models will be notified of the recall in early September. They will be instructed to bring their vehicle into their dealer for service, where both the engine and transmission software will be updated.
