This is the Mercedes-AMG Project One's Rear End

The Mercedes-AMG Project One is set to debut next week, but the German automaker is ramping up the excitement with a teaser showing the Formula 1-inspired hypercar’s rear end in its entirety.

Mercedes has actually shared quite a bit of information on the Project One, showing the vehicle’s powertrain and suspension in renderings and in a display for the media. Sitting midship will be a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine derived from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 car, which will drive the rear wheels via an eight-speed automated-manual transmission. Electric motors will drive each of the front wheels, making 322 hp combined, and will be joined by some flat 800-volt lithium ion battery packs located just behind the front wheels. Like an F1 car, the Project One will use a 161 hp MGU-K motor for a power boost and an MGU-H motor to recovery power for the battery packs. The powertrain will make over 1,000 horsepower, but an exact figure hasn’t been given.

The suspension continues the boundary-pushing theme with a height-adjustable pushrod setup front and rear. There will also be carbon ceramic brakes, center lock wheels measuring 19-inches in the front and 20-inches out back and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The aerodynamics will likely pull just as much inspiration from F1 as the rest of the car, but Mercedes has remained quiet about the car’s bodywork. The image of the rear end shows a heavily vented rear engine cover and roof intake, along with a large single center exhaust. There’s no rear wing in sight, so we’re willing to bet the rear aero will be deployable.

Mercedes shared a photo of the Project One’s interior on social media this week, revealing a Formula 1-style steering wheel with integrated shift lights and some knobs and switches for the controls and settings. Like the Aston Martin Valkyrie, digital displays will take the place of gauges in the Project One, and will likely be the only fancy-looking items in an interior that we expect to be motorsport-inspired and therefore a bit sparse (in a good way, of course).
