First Ever BMW M3 CS is Lighter, Quicker, and Faster

The first-ever BMW M3 CS has been introduced sporting 453 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque.

The special edition model will be limited to approximately 1,200 units worldwide, with about 550 units heading to the U.S. Those interested in getting their hands on the BMW M3 CS can put their orders in starting May 2018. Everything about the BMW M3 CS is designed to make the sports sedan lighter, quicker, and faster than the standard model, going zero-to-60 mph in 3.7 seconds on its way to a top speed of 174 mph. In terms of performance, its 453-hp figure is 28 hp more than the standard M3, while torque has been increased by 37 lb-ft.

Along with the bump in under-the-hood performance, the German automaker has managed to shed about 110 pounds thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP). The lightweight material can be found on large sections of the body, including the hood which is around 25 percent lighter compared to the regular M3. The roof is also 13 lbs lighter than a conventional steel version, while the back of the vehicle now boasts a redesigned “Gurney Flap” finished in exposed carbon fiber. On the trunk, the subtle M spoiler we’ve grown accustomed to has been restyled to help reduce rear-axle lift.

The goal of the M3 CS is to be more hardcore than the standard M3, while remaining practical for everyday use. As a result, it doesn’t sport a roll cage inside the cabin.

The model comes standard with Adaptive M Suspension, Active M Differential, and a chassis that is largely the same as what’s found on the M3 with Competition Package. It has been modified however for a sportier setup, says BMW. The standard wheels, sporting an Orbit Grey Matt finish, are 19×9 inch in the front and 20×10 inch in the rear, paired to Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

Offered in Alpine White as standard, buyers can also opt for San Marino Blue Metallic, Lime Rock Grey Metallic, Frozen Dark Blue II Metallic, or Black Sapphire Metallic. Inside, Alcantara is used generously in the cabin, along with two-tone full Merino leather in Silverstone/Black for a sporty feel. Both driver and passenger are treated to the same M sports seats fitted in the M3 with Competition Package.

Expect pricing for the new BMW M3 CS to be announced closer to its launch.
