2020 Toyota Corolla Spied Testing in Michigan

Spy photographers have once again caught the next-generation Toyota Corolla testing in public.

Spotted in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the 2020 Toyota Corolla prototype is still wearing the same amount of camouflage as before. But this time, our spy photographers were able to get better photos of the new Corolla from all angles. Unfortunately, heavy cladding still conceals most of the car’s design, although it appears the overall size of the Corolla will remain relatively the same.

Styling on the new Corolla should follow the same trend as other recent Toyota models, so expect a bit more of an aggressive design up front. For the most part, it will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

One of the biggest changes heading the Corolla’s way is its platform. The next-generation model will be underpinned by the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) that the Camry, C-HR, and Prius already ride on.

Power is still expected to come from a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, while a hybrid variant will be heading to other markets outside North America. A new CVT is a possibility for the engine.

There should also be some changes inside the cabin, with a larger infotainment screen and new controls. Basic driver assistance features are to be expected, but it is unlikely the North American Corolla will get any major technological advances, helping keep the Corolla affordable.
