2019 Chevrolet Volt Debuts With Faster Charging, New Infotainment
The 2019 Chevrolet Volt is getting juiced. A new 7.2 kW charging system cuts charge times in half.
The new system means twice the added range per 30 minute charge at a Level 2 station. Chevrolet says it means a better all-electric range thanks to making “opportunity charging more worthwhile.” If you’re on a per-minute charger, you’re getting more zip for your buck.
It can now charge fully in as little as 2.3 hours using a 240-volt plug and supporting hardware. The new system is standard on Volt Premier and an option on LT for 2019. The old 3.6 kW charger is standard on LT.

Chevy has also added an option to lower the activation temperature of the engine-assisted heater. It’ll now go as low as -13°F before the engine kicks on to warm you up. New regenerative braking profiles can give more regen when the driver lets off of the accelerator, and the updates make the transition from coasting to regen even smoother.
The infotainment system gets an update to a new version with an 8.0-inch screen. It’s also got a new energy app that shows how driving style and climate control affect range. A power driver’s seat is now available for the first time as well.
