Trademark Signals Arrival of Mercedes C 53 AMG
Mercedes-Benz’s parent company Daimler has filed to reserve the ‘C 53’ nameplate with the World Intellectual Property Organization.
This filing likely signals the eventual arrival of a C-Class based ’53 AMG’ variant.
It’s likely the C 53 AMG will feature the same powertrain as the E 53 AMG and CLS 53 AMG, which debuted Mercedes-Benz’s new single turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine and 48V mild hybrid system. The setup makes 435 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque in the E 53 and CLS 53, so we’re expecting a similar output for the C 53.
The C-Class will be available in three AMG flavors following the arrival of the C 53, which should slot in perfectly between the 362 hp C 43 AMG and 510 hp C63 AMG.

We’re expecting similar styling tweaks to the E 53 AMG and CLS 53 AMG as well, including chrome accents, redesigned tailpipes with chrome tailpipe finishers and AMG’s new performance steering wheel.
With the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class have already debuted, the C 53 AMG may arrive sometime next year as a 2020 model year vehicle, but it’s always possible we’ll see it sometime before then.
