Audi RS Q8 Spied Rocking Roll Cage at the Ring

It’s not unusual to see Audi testing its cars at the Nurburgring. Even cars that aren’t particularly hot get tested there. But sometimes, we spot something that’s clearly meant to take the ‘Ring on, like this camouflaged Q8 with a roll cage in it.

Like Nurburgring testing, fast SUVs are hardly a surprise anymore. Even Jeep makes a 700 hp Cherokee. But to see one with a roll cage in it is still unusual.

The most recent version we can remember is the Bentley Bentayga that recently set the SUV record at Pikes Peak.

Based on the same platform, they could conceivably share roll cages, as they appear to be sharing big, honking brakes.

In the case of the Bentayga, they were the optional brakes that are shared with the Lamborghini Urus. Famously, the biggest discs ever fitted to a production vehicle, the would help this Q8 stop as well as she goes.

Other changes to this Q8 include the ride height—low and mean—and the side skirts that, while obscured, help improve its stance (to our eyes at least).

All of these changes lead many to believe that the Q8 spotted here is the fabled RS Q8. With another, slightly hotter version of the Q8 also spotted at the ‘Ring recently, it’s hard to nail down what the lineup will look like, but these images do at least appear to promise speed.
