Tesla Model Y Order Books Open, Deliveries to Commence in 2020
The Tesla Model Y has made its official debut, with the base model offering up 230 miles of range for $39,000.
The Model Y is essentially a crossover version of the Model 3, featuring the same powertrain and batteries and a similar interior – albeit with more passenger and cargo space.
Four versions of the Model Y will eventually be available: Standard Range RWD, Long Range RWD, Long Range AWD and Performance.
The Standard Range RWD model can travel 230 miles on a charge, Tesla says, and will start at $39,000. The Long Range RWD model, starting at $49,000 according to Tesla’s website, can travel 300 miles on a charge and will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.5s. The $53,000 Long Range AWD variant gets 280 miles per charge and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.8s.

Range topping Model Y Performance variants get 280 miles per charge, will accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5s and top out at 150 mph. Prices will start at $62,000.
The Model Y’s interior is similar to the Model 3’s, however passengers will benefit from additional headroom and a spacious feel that “offers an expansive view from every seat in the vehicle.” A five-seat layout is standard, however a seven-seat configuration is offered for $3,000.
A 15-inch touchscreen interface controls just about everything in the vehicle while Tesla’s phone app is used to open the door and start the car. The automaker says the app also allows the user to remotely control and access features like the door locks, Summon, battery charge pre-conditioning and location tracking.
The Model Y is compatible with Tesla’s global Supercharger grid, of course, which currently consists of more than 12,000 charging stations in 36 countries. The electric crossover can also tap into the company’s new V3 Supercharger system, which can add 1,000 miles of range to a vehicle in just 1 hour.
The Tesla Model Y is available to configure and order now. Tesla says deliveries of the Model Y Performance, Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, and Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive variants will commence in Fall of 2020, while the $39,000 Model Y Standard Range won’t be available until Spring of 2021.
