2024 Lexus TX Teased: Here Comes a Grand Luxury Three-Row SUV

The 2024 Lexus TX will step in for the now-departed RX-L as the brand’s three-row crossover SUV.

Get ready for another big three-row luxury SUV. Lexus on Tuesday morning gave folks the first look at its TX, a new nameplate for the Japanese brand. It will slot in above the new-for-2023 RX as the brand’s third three-row offering.

The Lexus Texas, as it will henceforth be known, will likely be built in Indiana. Why Indiana? Because that’s where its sibling, the upcoming Toyota Grand Highlander, will also be produced. Both models sit on the same TNGA platform as their smaller siblings (the Highlander and RX), but with a stretched wheelbase and length for a more accommodating third row. It will play in a competitive luxury space, against rivals as diverse as the BMW X5, Genesis GV80, Volvo XC90, Acura MDX—and even the Mazda CX-90.

What can we make out with this first glimpse? The cropped image puts the back half of the TX in the spotlight, showcasing a blacked-out D-pillar and a sizeable rear side window. The TX’s profile is much more upright than the rakish RX, which should pay off with more way-back headroom for adults. The TX also shares its wheel arch trim shape with the Grand Highlander, though it’s body-color here instead of contrasting black plastic. We can make out the more traditionally Lexus taillights, too; it’s unclear if this is a full-width setup, however. While the shadows hide the details on the tires, they’re clearly lower-profile than the 20-inchers on the Grand Highlander.

A Toyota Grand Highlander, for comparison.

While Lexus didn’t release any further details on the TX, it seems safe to assume it will match the Grand Highlander’s powertrain options—and thus, largely the same as the RX’s, too. The Toyota features a 2.4-liter turbo-four as standard, with two hybrid options in the shape of the ubiquitous 2.5-liter, 240-ish horsepower model and the turbocharged Hybrid Max powertrain, which produces up to 367 horsepower in the RX 500h F Sport Performance. The Grand Highlander and RX also come in both front- and all-wheel drive flavors.
