There was a time when Cadillac called itself the standard of the world, and it wasn’t just marketing puff.

Unquestionably, the automotive industry is one of the most dynamic in the world. New vehicles are constantly under development by manufacturers.

It wasn’t the first time I had seen the Cadillac XT6. I’d seen plenty of it in photos, but I had also seen it in the metal more on more than one occasion. But this time, I saw a trio of them. In traffic. In Sport trim with dark pewter paint. No longer did I see a big SUV that departed from the elegance that was the CTS and the XT4 with their swooping lines and big boomerang headlights for no good reason. Well, I did still see that departure, but there was more of a reason.

Owners of the Cadillac CT6 will soon be able to use Super Cruise on more than 200,000 miles of American and Canadian roadways.

Cadillac has just unveiled the first performance variants for the CT4 and CT5. The CT4- and CT5-V bridge the gap that Cadillac says exists between its regular cars and the track-ready V-Series cars of old.

Rumors of the Cadillac CT6’s demise were premature, says Cadillac president Steve Carlisle. Calling the CT6’s status “complicated” is fair, he says, but it’s not dead.

Cadillac CEO Steve Carlisle doesn’t believe that 300 to 350 miles of range will be acceptable for the electric crossover it revealed before the Detroit Auto Show.
