Are German Cars Reliable? The Myth of "German Engineering"

There are a lot of car stereotypes out there, like that Toyota builds dull appliances. While true on many fronts, the Japanese automaker does also make exciting sporty cars like the Scion FR-S, and Lexus LFA, both praised for their exhilarating rides, edgy styling and pulse-raising performance. Designer of the Porsche 911, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche Passes Away at 76

The designer of the famed Porsche 911 model has sadly passed away today at the age of 76. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was the oldest son of Ferry Porsche and the news comes as the German automaker debuts its Boxster and Cayenne Diesel at the New York Auto Show.

“We mourn the death of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. As creator of the Porsche 911 he founded a design company in our culture that shapes our sports cars today. His philosophy of good design is for us a legacy that we will continue to do with honor,” Porsche said.

Born on December 11th, 1935, Ferdinand was nicknamed “Butzi” by his family and his passion for design started at a very young age. He started working at Porsche in 1958 and became the head of Porsche’s design department in 1962. One year later, he designed the replacement for the iconic 356 sports car that his father had designed over a decade earlier.
