2024 Lexus TX Starts Under $56,000, Right At The Heart Of the Segment

The Lexus TX might hit the sweet spot of big crossover prices.

The Lexus TX is just what Lexus buyers have been waiting for – a three-row crossover that’s actually good at carrying occupants. True, the brand has had the truck-based Lexus GX and LX, but those expensive off-road beats aren’t really known for their family friendliness. Lexus did offer an RX350 with an extended wheelbase and two extra seats, but the rear seats were tiny.

The Lexus TX rectifies this, by essentially sharing much of its structural bones with the Toyota Grand Highlander. This means the TX now has real room in its third row, as well as hybrid power available as an option.

Lexus is leading with the gas model, though. For 2024, the base Lexus TX350 FWD will start at $53,700, not including the $1,350 destination fee. That gets you a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder good for 275 horsepower, sent to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic.

The cheapest hybrid model is the Lexus TX500H F Sport Performance Premium. That starts at $68,000 – it will get the same 2.4-liter turbo, but a variant of Lexus’s Direct4 hybrid system. Instead of an eCVT, the TX500h will use a 6-speed automatic and a powerful rear-mounted electric motor. Together, the TX500h will produce 366 horsepower. The topmost TX500h will reach $71,300. Pricing for plug-in hybrid Lexus TX550h+, and Canadian market pricing for the entire Lexus TX lineup will be released at a later date.

As far as big family-oriented crossovers go, the Lexus TX does sit considerably above ones like the Buick Enclave or the Hyundai Palisade Caligraphy. However, it seems to be aimed right at cars like the Genesis GV80 and Volvo XC90. Unlike the Genesis at least, the Lexus offers a hybrid and a more spacious third row. Only time will tell if the TX550+ PHEV will undercut the Volvo XC90 Recharge.
