The next-generation BMW 6 Series will be offered with a turbocharged six-cylinder engine as well as an all-wheel drive V8 model. According to a BMW employee posting on BimmerPost, the 2012 6 Series will initially be offered as a 650 model in both coupe and convertible form with production starting in early to mid 2011, with 640 and 650xi models heading into production in September. We expect the 640 to use the same turbocharged inline-six found in the new 740i.

Also noteworthy is the fact that the second-generation BMW X3 will also get a turbocharged inline-six. Launching as a 2011 model year crossover, the X3 will go into production in December of 2010 with an X3 xDrive28i model offered as well as the 300-hp turbocharged x3 xDrive35i.
