BMW‘s new stylish Gran Coupe Concept has reportedly been given the green light for production, with a strong possibility that it will wear a 6 Series badge. Currently the concept isn’t far off from production considering it already sits on the same platform being used or the current 5 Series, 7 Series and 5 Series GT. When it does launch, expect a range of engines similar to those found in the 5 and 7 series including twin-turbo inline-six and V8 powerplants. The use of 8-speed automatic transmissions will be across the board.

Designed to compete with vehicles like the Porsche Panamera, Audi A7 and Maserati Quattroporte, BMW is poised to imitate what Mercedes did with the CLS. That being said, the vehicle’s more evocative styling should make its way into the rest of the BMW lineup over the years to come.

It’s possible that we could see a production model as early as this Fall’s Paris Auto Show.
