GM Recalls Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS for Steering Defects
If you own or drive a 2010 or 2011 Buick Lucerne or Cadillac DTS (I’m sure there’s some of you under the age of 65 and don’t worry we’re not smirking), then your car might be the subject of a recall.
General Motors recently issued a recall bulletin on these models equipped with V8 engines. The problem is a starter or alternator cable that could pinch, chafe or sever the power steering hose, causing a loss of steering. Another issue is that the proximity of the hose to the cable could actual wear away the protective wrap on the cable, resulting in metal to metal contact which could drain the battery or cause sparks, potentially resulting in an under hood fire. To date, GM is aware of four fires that have started in Lucerne and DTS models, but no injuries.
GM will authorize its dealers to recall the affected vehicles and fix the problem free of charge; notices will be mailed out to customers beginning on November 19th. Those brand new Lucerne and DTS models that are still unsold, will be held on dealer lots until they can be fixed.
