Audi might be releasing the hardcore performance version of its upcoming A3 sooner than expected.

Stephan Reil, boss of Audi’s Quattro division told WhatCar that the new RS3 will be launched a little more than a year after the S3. That stands in stark contrast with the brand’s traditional habit of launching its RS editions toward the end of the vehicle’s life cycle like the car seen above.

Presumably, the car will be powered by the same 335-hp five-cylinder engine, which Reil said will enjoy more use from the brand.

When the car comes Stateside, it’s unlikely to be a hatchback as the MQB-based A3 will be sold exclusively as a sedan. If the RS3 reaches the North American market, it will likely also be a sedan.
