Volkswagen is looking to expand its next-generation Passat lineup by adding a CC Shooting Brake model according to insiders.

Based on the German automaker’s versatile MQB platform, the next Passat is tentatively scheduled to launch in 2015 and will grow in size compared to the current generation model. But in a move mimicking Mercedes-Benz and its CLS Shooting Brake model, Volkswagen wants to prove it can be just as stylish with its own CC Shooting Brake.

No official word has come from Volkswagen on the rumored model, but it’s also unlikely that it would make it to the American market. In Europe, the Passat wagon is a popular model, a vehicle that isn’t even offered in America anymore. But then again, BMW has turned away from wagon models by releasing Gran Turismo variants, which could entice Volkswagen to follow in those footsteps.

How about a proper Passat wagon, the car that brought my family into the VAG fold in the first place?
