Jaguar’s hottest-ever coupe, the XKR-S GT, debuted today on the floor of the 2013 New York Auto Show.

As is true with the XKR-S, aerodynamic body modifications are significant with this car . It gets a massive spoiler and rear diffuser, wheel arch extensions and other aerodynamic enhancements that add up to 320 lbs of downforce.

A familiar supercharged 5.0-liter V8 churns out 550 hp from under the hood with 502 lb-ft or torque that launches it from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds via a six-speed automatic transmission. But power isn’t what sets this car apart. That distinction comes from its carbon ceramic brakes – a first for any Jaguar production car.

Those, along with 15.7 inch rotors in the front with six-piston calipers and 15-inch discs with four-piston calipers in the rear, give the car improved track capability.

Jaguar didn’t stop there, though. The suspension is also heavily modified with a wider front track, increased camber, revised bushings, a new steering system and a faster steering ratio.

Don’t hold your breath about seeing one in person outside an auto show, though. There are only 30 heading to North America with 25 for the U.S. and five for Canada. Pricing starts at $174,000 and deliveries will begin in August.
