Well-known Porsche racing team TRG has made the switch to Aston Martin and in doing so has formed a partnership with the storied British brand to grow its enthusiast base in America.

Currently competing in the Grand-Am and ALMS series, TRG-Aston Martin Racing will combine efforts to better support an effort in the combined United SportsCar Racing series for 2014.

Speaking with AutoGuide at the New York Auto Show last week, TRG-AMG North America COO Bob Dickinson retailed the program and his enthusiasm for the brand.

In addition to the top-tier motorsports initiative, a new spec series will be launched, similar to the Porsche Cup, Ferrari Challenge and Lamborghini Super Trofeo. A full schedule has not yet been released, but TRG-AMG says the new Vantage US Cup series will let “gentlemen drivers” participate using Vantage GT4 race cars.

Another TRG-AMR partner also suggested that the company may purchase several additional GT4 spec cars for those who don’t want to commit to the entire year. The cars could also then be used as rentals to help hook interested competitors without having to sign-on for an entire season.

Beyond pure racing, TRG and Aston Martin Racing will host numerous other events across the US in 2014, including arrive and drive events at race tracks. An introduction to the feel of driving an Aston Martin on the track, the programs will feature professional instruction and data evaluation.

Full details of the Vantage US Cup series as well as ride and drive events are expected later this year.
