Earlier this year, Alpina unveiled its B3 Bi-Turbo at the Geneva Motor Show, and now the in-house BMW tuner will debut a diesel-powered version of that same car at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Also present at the Geneva Motor Show in March from Alpina was its first SUV, the XD3 based on the BMW X3. Under the hood of the XD3 lurked a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo diesel engine with 350 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. That same powerplant will now find its way into a 3 Series model to become the Alpina D3.

Essentially a diesel variant to the B3 Bi-Turbo, the D3 will be based on the 335d xDrive and will accelerate to 62 mph from a standstill in 4.8 seconds. The powerplant will be mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission
