The BMW i8 will make its official production debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, but the car’s product manager believes the U.S. will be the largest market for the new plug-in hybrid sports car.

According to Hendrik Wenders, the target customer for the i8 is a tech-savvy, affluent man who is at least 35 years old. The i8’s market launch is expected to start in about nine months and will roll out simultaneously in dealerships all around the world. Wenders noted that the i8 will be sold in about 50 countries.

And like the i3, customers can also order and purchase an i8 online, through a call center, or salespeople will go directly to the customer’s home to complete the sale. Earlier this week, BMW announced that the i8 will have a total system output of 362 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque while weighing less than 3,285 pounds.
