161,400 Mazda 6 vehicles are being recalled in the U.S. because of defective door latches.

The vehicles affected by the recall were built before August 24, 2012 and span the 2009-2013 model years. According to the Japanese automaker, the door latch screws can become loose and as a result, the side doors can open while the vehicle is in motion.

An investigation on the issue was launched by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in May 2013 after several reports by owners were filed. Dealers will remove the latch screws on all doors, apply a thread-locking adhesive to the door screws and retighten them to proper torque specs.

No accidents or injuries related to the recall have been reported.
