Mercedes GLA250 Expands Benz SUV Range to Five

Sharing a platform with another Frankfurt Motor Show debut, the Mercedes GLA is a tri-pointed star away from being a near knock-off of the Infiniti Q30 concept.

Arguably, the chassis sharing and shape stealing is the other way around with the Infiniti a mere concept, while the GLA250 is a full production car set to arrive on our shores in 2014.

The GLA also shares its underpinnings with the new model, the CLA-class, meaning it’s a front-driver by nature with an optional AWD system. The engine is also the same, with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder making 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.

Inside it’s the CLA all over again, with nearly identical styling, including a bevy of buttons on the dash. Outside, standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels and roof rails.

As with any Mercedes, technology is a focal point with an auto-brake feature that works at speeds of up to 124 mph and can prevent a collision at speeds of up to 12 mph. Other available goodies include blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assistance and automatic parallel parking, a power liftgate, adaptive cruise control and the obligatory panoramic roof.

With pricing yet to be announced, expect the GLA250 to cost between $30,000 and $35,000 to start. Look for the GLA250 4MATIC to arrive in the Fall of 2014.
