Jeep is paying homage to its roots with a new special edition Wrangler called the Willys Wheeler, which will debut at this week’s LA Auto Show.

The Willys Wheeler edition is meant to recreate the original Jeep’s purely functional capability, and gets a host of upgraded hardware.

Based on the Wrangler Sport, the Willys Wheeler is fitted with a Dana 44 rear axle with a limited-slip rear differential and 3.73 gears, off-road tires, a set of rock rails and a new Jeep Trail Rated Kit that includes a D-Ring, tow strap and gloves in a Jeep-branded bag. A two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio is also used on this special edition Jeep.

Power still comes from the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that produces 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.

Exterior style is revised on the Willys Wheeler as well, with the addition of gloss black accessories, satin black decals and high-gloss black 17-inch aluminium wheels.

Pricing for the Willys Wheeler edition Wrangler starts at $25,795 for a two-door model and jumps to $29,595 for Unlimited (four-door) models.
