What is this, spy-photo Friday? First our intrepid picture-makers nabbed the 2015 Subaru Outback driving in Europe, then they tagged the new Audi A6 cavorting in the snow. Now they’ve sent us images of the German company’s upcoming 2016 Audi R8 supercar. Excited? You should be.

The car’s bones are shared with the new Lamborghini Huracán. Its architecture is an exotic mélange of carbon fiber and aluminum that promises to be hundreds of pounds lighter than the structure today’s R8 is built around.

Thankfully an eight-cylinder engine is expected to remain as the base powerplant, except in the 2016 R8 it should brandish a duet of turbochargers, upping the output and fun factor. A 5.2-liter V10 should be the alpha-dog engine, delivering a rumored 600 hp.

The 2016 Audi R8 is expected to feature all-wheel drive for increased traction in varying weather conditions. Power should be routed through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission; it’s unknown at this point whether a manual gearbox will be available, but in the meantime feel free to ogle the photos below.
