This heavily camouflaged car is the upcoming Jaguar sports sedan. Dubbed the XE, it’s Jag’s secret weapon which is designed to compete with the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4.

Our spy photographer caught the small Jaguar sedan while testing on an ice-track. Judging from the over-steer and smiles on the test-drivers faces, we’d venture a guess that this is a rear-wheel drive model. An all-wheel drive setup is also rumored to be available when the XE finally lands in showrooms.

When the XE comes out in 2016, expect it to sport a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Pair that engine with the cars lightweight aluminum architecture and the XE should prove to make the car quite the performer.

The XE will also underpin Jaguars upcoming compact crossover, which we’ve seen in concept form as the C-X17. Without a doubt, this car should be playing an important step for Jaguar and it’s good to see testing already underway.
