McLaren 650S Spider Soaks in the Rays at Lightspeed
Announced prior to its Geneva Motor Show debut, McLaren has just released these first images of the stunning 650S Spider.
One of the world’s fastest convertibles its performance remains unchanged from the coupe thanks to the ultra-strong carbon fiber tub that underpins the car. The 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 delivers, as the name suggests, 650 hp, allowing for a 0-62 mph time of an alarmingly fast 3.0 seconds and will hit 124 mph (200 km/h) in just 8.6 seconds while blasting on to a top speed of 204 mph.

Thanks to the carbon fiber chassis, no added bracing is required to firm-up the Spider’s structure and so the only added weight is of the retractable hard-top components themselves. Adding 40 kg (88 lbs) to the overall dry weight, the 650S Spider is a light 1370 kg (3,020 lbs.).

The retractable hard top can be lowered in just 17 seconds at speeds of up to 19 mph.
