While other automakers are driving away from V8 engines, Porsche will be equipping its Panamera with a new one.

The next-generation Panamera will have its own new V8 engine that will be shared across the new MSB platform that Bentley might use starting from 2017. Both the V6 and V8 powerplants heading to the new Panamera will feature a sportier character compared to other Volkswagen and Audi powerplants, but will also be used in various other vehicles in the Volkswagen Group’s portfolio.

The MSB platform’s development is being led by Porsche and will underpin sporty and luxurious models across VW Group’s brands. Bentley automaker hasn’t committed to the platform yet, as Audi’s MLB architecture is also under consideration. The MSB platform is being developed to meet high-speed performance standards and include high-strength steel and lightweight aluminum components.

The next-generation Porsche Panamera is expected to arrive in 2017.
