Porsche Offers Interim Leases to Waiting Macan Buyers
You might have to wait more than six months for a Porsche Macan, but the company is willing to jump through hoops to keep you happy in the meantime.
As a result of the long wait, the German automaker is offering short-term leases on either a Boxster or Cayman sports car. The open-ended leases will run until the buyer’s Macan arrives, whether that’s in six months or more. According to the CEO of Porsche Cars North America, Detlev von Platen, about 80 percent of Macan buyers will be first-time Porsche buyers and the automaker would hate to lose the new customer because of the delay.

The program just launched recently and already Porsche is seeing a positive response. Last month, Porsche sold 1,263 Macan vehicles in the U.S. but supply constraints will limit the Macan’s full-year U.S. sales figure to less than 10,000 for 2014. Currently, Porsche’s plant in Leipzig, Germany is set up to build 50,000 Macans a year, but the German automaker could boost that figure if demand is strong enough.
