At the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show, Chevrolet announced a new high-tech solution that will help identify problems with your car before they become an issue.

This is possible thanks to the OnStar 4G LTE internet connection that all new Chevy’s are being shipped with. The car will send information from its sensors to GM’s cloud, where the company will be able to predict and warn you about which car parts are at risk of failing.

Hitting 2016 model year vehicles, the technology is initially just focused on the car’s battery, starter motor and fuel pump. Additional vehicle parts and components are expected to be added in future model years.

“This is a new chapter in our pursuit to provide customers with convenience and the best overall service in the industry,” said Alicia Boler-Davis, GM senior vice president of Global Connected Customer Experiences. “Using our innovative OnStar 4G LTE connectivity platform, we can actively monitor vehicle component health and notify our customers if covered vehicle components need attention.”

If a component is at risk of failing, GM will notify the driver via an email, text message, in-vehicle alerts or through the OnStar RemoteLink smartphone app.

Furthermore, the company announced that its OnStar RemoteLink app will get a new service that can send a monthly report to car owners. This report will point out the vehicle’s tire pressure, oil life and other key maintenance information. In 2016, Chevrolet will allows customers to check these data points continuously, without having to wait for their monthly email.
