Mazda has no intentions of letting the rotary engine die a silent death.

After years of rumors and speculation, the Japanese automaker finally showed off the RX-Vision concept at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, promising that development of a new-generation rotary engine is ongoing and the RX nameplate will make a return in due time. The stylish coupe concept exudes the company’s Kodo design language from bumper to bumper and is simply a stunning piece of machinery.

Mazda is calling its new rotary engine a SkyActiv-R powerplant, but stayed relatively quiet on its displacement or the number of rotors it will use. But let’s be honest, the fact that the company has created a concept sporting the RX name with the promise of a rotary engine is good enough for now.

    I like the concept of this thing a lot better than the production Mercedes AMG GT S roadster, which in its own right beginning to grow on me just a bit in-spite of its knock-off to the Porsche 911.
