Production on the McLaren 570S has begun.

As the first model of the McLaren Sport Series, the 570S Coupe will be followed by the 540C Coupe and another bodystyle launching next year. The first McLaren 570S has already rolled off the production line and is heading to a dealership in the U.K. According to the British automaker, its dealerships worldwide already have over 1,000 orders even though the first customer hasn’t even received their 570S.

The start of production of the Sport Series lineup marks a new chapter in McLaren Automotive and completes the company’s three-tier product strategy that consists of the Ultimate Series, Super Series and Sport Series.

McLaren expects to complete the Sport Series family by 2018, which will help the automaker more than double its annual sales to over 4,000 units per year.

“The start of production of the new Sports Series cars is a pivotal moment for McLaren Automotive. In our short history, we have produced a range of supercars and hypercars targeted at a core, enthusiast buyer,” said Jolyon Nash, executive director of sales and marketing at McLaren Automotive. “Since 2011, our sales have increased year-on-year with corresponding developments in revenues and profits. The Sports Series is targeted towards a new buyer and opens McLaren up to the sports car market that we have not served to date. The buyer of a Sports Series model will still experience the benchmark performance and driver engagement delivered by every McLaren model, but will also notice the increased usability and practicality that differentiates it from our existing cars. In addition, the Sports Series will make a significant contribution to the long-term sustainability of the company.”
