Is safety a priority for you when the time comes to purchase a new car?

With hundreds of cars available, narrowing down your choice could come down to which car looks the best, fits your budget and offers the performance you want. From there, you will want to focus on safety, which means getting a car that excels at crash tests.

AutoGuide.com has compiled a list of all the vehicles that have earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) as well as a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). All vehicles on this list satisfy both requirements and are the safest cars you can purchase in 2016.

It’s worth noting that not all 2016 model year vehicles have been tested by both IIHS and NHTSA, so we will be keeping this list updated as often as possible with new additions as more vehicles get tested.

There’s also a different list for SUVs and crossovers here and a separate list for luxury cars here.
