A new Mercedes-Benz pickup truck is rumored to arrive before the end of 2016.

According to Volker Mornhinweg, head of Mercedes-Benz van division, the new truck will debut, at least in concept form, before the end of 2016. That points towards a debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in September.

The new Mercedes pickup truck will be based on the Nissan NP300 Navara, a truck that Nissan sells in European and world markets. It is rumored to be called the Mercedes X-Class, though it could also wear the GLX moniker.

As of right now, Mercedes says that it is assessing the U.S. market to decide whether or not the truck will be offered here. If it does come to the U.S., it would be sold as a luxury truck meant to appeal to existing Mercedes owners who might be looking for a bit more capability.

The teaser sketch seen above was released by Mercedes and is our only hint at what the midsize pickup will look like.
