Jeep Renegade Recalled Over Hitch That Can Fall Off

Jeep is calling back about 8,561 Renegades over an issue with the optional trailer hitch.

In the affected models, which are from the 2015 and 2016 model years, the hitch may have been attached with only one fastener per side, not three per side as is required. This can lead to the hitch separating from the vehicle, which means that whatever trailer is hooked to it will also separate.

No injuries or accidents have been linked to this issue according to Jeep, though the brand did warn that owners may hear a rattling noise coming from the rear end of the vehicle while driving.

Jeep technicians will install the additional two fasteners per side. Dates for when the recall will begin were not announced.
