The Genesis luxury sub-brand from Hyundai is getting ready to take on the popular BMW 3 Series.

Spy photographers have caught the Genesis G70 testing in Germany, looking like a toned-down version of the Genesis New York Concept. Now that the Genesis G80 and G90 models are heading to dealerships, the Korean automaker is turning its attention to an entry-level offering.

The Genesis G70 will compete with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4, along with the BMW 3 Series and will likely come standard with rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive as an option.

Under the hood, expect certain models to use a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine, while more affordable variants will have a four-cylinder turbo engine. A hybrid version will also join the lineup.

According to a leaked road map, the Genesis G70 was originally scheduled to make its debut this year. But given how much camouflage it is still wearing, next year might be more likely.
