The BMW X2 is getting closer to production.

At the 2016 Paris Motor Show, BMW gave a preview of the upcoming compact crossover with the BMW X2 Concept and now a prototype has been spied testing on the Nurburgring.

The new BMW X2 is expected to head to production in the second half of this year and rides on the same platform underpinning the BMW X1 and MINI lineup. But the X2 will feature “coupe-like” styling, similar to what BMW has done on the X4 and X6 models.

Like we saw on the concept, expect the X2’s front end to be more aggressive than the X1, given that it’s supposed to be a sportier model. It also appears BMW will keep its promise of not departing too far from the concept as the styling is overall very similar.

When the BMW X2 debuts, expect to see front-wheel drive standard while xDrive all-wheel-drive variants will be available. Look for more details on the BMW X2 once it debuts later this year before it goes on sale in 2018.
