Volvo Adds Carbon Components to 2018 S60 and V60 Polestar
Volvo has today unveiled the 2018 S60 and V60 Polestar models, which feature new carbon fiber aerodynamic components that increase downforce by up to 30 percent.
The carbon fiber aero pieces consist of a front splitter, side skirts and a rear spoiler. They were developed using know-how Volvo obtained through its participation in the World Touring Car Championship, where it is currently locked in an intense fight for the manufacturer’s championship. Apart from looking cool, Volvo says the components help to increase grip and stability at high-speed.
In addition to the carbon aero components, the 2018 S60 and V60 Polestar have also received new Polestar diamond cut wheels and carbon fiber door mirror caps. A new exterior color, Bursting Blue Metallic, joins Cyan Racing Blue, Onyx Black, Bright Silver and Ice White on the Polestar’s color palette. Inside, new seat upholstery has been applied, which is joined by blue contrast stitching and Polestar embroidering.

Volvo’s turbocharged and supercharged 367 horsepower 2.0-liter engine remains unchanged in the Polestar, as do the eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system. The same go-fast parts that separate the Polestar from everyday Volvos, such as Ohlins dampers and six-piston Brembo brakes, also return unchanged.
“The Model Year 18 S60 and V60 Polestar models are the pinnacle of our road car programs that we have been developing successfully since our first road car was launched in 2013,” said Polestar product boss Jörgen Ronstad. “The aerodynamic enhancements, combined with other small but important changes, further enhances our base philosophy of a performance car for all roads and conditions, transferring technology and learnings from track to road.”
