A Lamborghini Sedan is Still a Strong Possibility

The Lamborghini Estoque Concept first shown at the 2008 Paris Motor Show may not be dead yet.

In a recent interview with Autocar, Lamborghini commercial director Federico Foschini revealed the automaker is looking at a model line beyond the upcoming Urus SUV. The publication claims the frontrunner for this new model line is a front-engine, four-door sedan that would share a platform with the Porsche Panamera. Lamborghini toyed with the idea of producing a sedan after showing the well-received Estoque in 2008, but the project was shelved due to the global financial crisis and the automaker’s preference for the Urus.

The new Lamborghini four-door has yet to be given the green light as the company is also looking at developing a carbon platform that could serve as the basis for a three-pronged supercar lineup – similar to McLaren’s approach. This project, which would likely entail moving the Huracan down in the model hierarchy and the Aventador up to create room for a new model, would take priority over a sedan if it were to be approved. Autocar says the new third model to be added under the plan is being referred to internally as the new Miura.

Lamborghini is remaining tight-lipped about its future plans, with the bulk of its attention currently focused on the debut of the Urus in early December. The Urus will share the MLB Evo platform with the Porsche Cayenne and will utilize a 650 horsepower version of Porsche’s 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8. The Italian manufacturer is expecting it to double its yearly sales to over 4,000 units a year and attract a new type of consumer to the brand. Its debut has been set for December 3rd at Lamborghini’s headquarters in Sant’Agata, Italy.
