David Bowie's Volvo 262C Sells for Nearly $220K
David Bowie, as we all know, was a man of exquisite taste. It should come as no surprise, therefore, that he was a fan of Volvos, and especially of those built by Bertone.
Recently sold at auction in Switzerland, this Volvo 262C went for a staggering 212,800 Swiss Francs (a little over $217,000), more than tripling top estimates.
Billed as Volvo’s entry into the luxury segment, you could draw a squiggly line tying it to the modern, highly luxurious range. This one, built late in the run, was first registered to Bowie before being transferred to his record company, Bewlay Bros.
Powered by a 2.8-liter V6 co-developed by Volvo, Peugeot, and Renault the 262C churned out 155 hp when new.

Inside, meanwhile, it’s all ruched leather and burled oak and everything you’d expect from a ‘70s luxury car inspired by a Lincoln Continental.
It seems, though, that despite all that, Bowie didn’t feel the need to take it out of the garage too much, since it only has 33,000 miles on it. The good in that is that it’s also in near perfect, highly original condition.
The car sold late last year at the Oldtimer Galerie Toffen auction in Gstaad.
