The plug-in hybrid Porsche 911 will be the most powerful version of the sports car when it arrives in 2020.

Speaking to Autocar in Geneva this week, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume revealed the plug-in hybrid 911 could make up to 700 horsepower. The hybridized sports car will arrive a couple years after the debut of 992-generation 911, which is expected to debut this year. Blume said the hybrid will be the most powerful 992 911, which likely means it will sit atop the model range and outclass the Turbo S both in price and overall performance. Blume also said there will be a “special button” that will allow the plug-in 911 to fully tap into its electric powertrain and deliver a brief “electric punch.”

The 992 generation 911 was previewed by Porsche earlier this month. The sports car is expected to be fairly tech-laden with a new digital infotainment screen and dash screens and some semi-autonomous active safety features. The Turbo model will reportedly make up to 592 hp, while the Turbo S is rumored to get around 630 hp. The hybrid should receive the same turbocharged flat-six as the Turbo S, which will likely also be joined by an electric propulsion system and a battery pack.

The 992 Porsche 911 will make its debut later this year, but the hybrid won’t be shown, nor will it be available from launch.
