The Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR Prototype will make its debut at the 2018 Wörthersee Enthusiast Festival.

Sporting 286 horsepower, the Golf GTI TCR will sit at the top of the lineup when it launches at the end of the year. It’s a special edition model that is basically a road-going version of the two-time overall winner of the international TCR race series. The Golf GTI TCR is powered by a turbocharged engine that also offers 273 pound-feet of torque while paired to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

The German automaker says top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, but it can be increased to 164 mph by removing that electronic speed limiter. The result? The fastest Golf GTI ever.

Expect to see plenty more projects from Volkswagen for its Wörthersee festival in Austria. It’s the world’s largest GTI gathering and an estimated 7,300 cars and 125,000 people are showing up this year.
