1. Editor's Pick: LEGO Technic Porsche 911 RSR

The Porsche 911 RSR is one of the most iconic sports cars ever created, and the LEGO Technic version might be the best alternative to the real thing. This LEGO replica was developed in partnership with the German automaker, making it extremely authentic with plenty of the details you'd find on the production car. Many of the sharp contours and aerodynamic details are present, including the rear wing with "swan neck" mounts, extended rear diffuser, and the specially designed side mirrors. It's truly a Porsche fanatic's dream set.

Other fine details that truly set this kit apart include a visible working differential, independent suspension, and a six-cylinder boxer engine with moving pistons found in front of the rear axle. Inside the accessible cockpit, there's a radar screen, working steering, fire extinguisher system, and a map of the world famous Laguna Seca track printed on the driver's door. Rounding it all off are black wheels, realistic headlights and tail lights, and of course, the iconic black, red, and white color scheme with detailed stickers.

In total, there are 1,580 pieces to this set. Once built, it measures over 19" long, 7" wide, and 5" tall.

Product features:

  • Developed in partnership with Porsche
  • Features plenty of details from the real thing including the six-cylinder boxer engine with moving pistons, working differential, and decked out cockpit
  • Working steering
  • Total pieces: 1,580

2. LEGO Technic Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

The Chevrolet Corvette is one of America's most famous sports cars, and the latest model is arguably the best looking one yet. The same could be said for its LEGO Technic counterpart, with this ZR1 replica developed in partnership with Chevy. The exterior is decked out with an authentic orange and black color scheme, and you can enhance the styling with the included sticker sheet. Inside the cabin, you can operate the working steering and when you maneuver the finished creation, it'll activate the visible V8 pistons.

What makes this 579-piece kit really unique is that it's a two-in-one kit. You can use the same pieces to build a Hot Rod replica! The Corvette model measures over 11" long, 4" wide, and 3" tall when completed, while the Hot Rod measures over 9" long, 4" wide, and 3" tall.

3. LEGO Speed Champions McLaren Senna

Very few of us will ever have the opportunity to see the McLaren Senna up close and personal, nevermind driving or even owning one. So that means we'll have to settle for a LEGO Champions version, which features a minifigure cockpit for the racing driver minifigure that comes complete with a racing suit sporting the McLaren Senna and Pirelli logos. You can also equip the racing driver with a helmet and spanner.

The car itself has a few customizable features, with a removable windshield and two sets of interchangeable wheels. You can even mix-and-match if you want to give your Senna a different look. If the model itself is too plain for you once it's assembled, you can further decorate it with the McLaren and Senna logo stickers. But it's not just the replica car that you can play with; this kit includes a wind tunnel fan that rotates so you can simulate car development scenarios. It's a nice bonus, considering how much McLaren emphasized aerodynamics when the British automaker developed the wild Senna.

Vin Diesel would be the first one to tell you to check out what's underneath the hood, which in this case, is an iconic V8 engine with moving pistons.

It's the last car that Enzo Ferrari oversaw in his lifetime, so it holds a special place in the hearts of Ferrari enthusiasts. That, and it's just pure awesome.

What is LEGO Technic?

You may have noticed that we have some recommendations from the LEGO Technic series, which are more comprehensive kits. But what is LEGO Technic and how do its kits differ from standard LEGO kits?

LEGO Technic was first introduced in 1977, and its building system is made up of beams, gear wheels, and axles. This allows more complex models to be built, which is ideal when it comes to LEGO car sets. The result are models that are more advanced and technically detailed, inspired by real world vehicles. If you've browsed some of our LEGO Technic recommendations, you'll see that many of them are designed in collaboration with the automaker and have realistic, working features such as movable pistons and working steering.

If you want the ultimate LEGO experience with a car set, you'll want to get an option from LEGO Technic.

What is LEGO Speed Champions?

The LEGO Speed Champions playsets are authentic, realistic toy cars from popular automakers. Kits from this series are designed to ignite a child's passion for driving and racing. They may not be as detailed or complex as LEGO Technic products, but they're much more affordable and easier to build. Although we've covered quite a few LEGO Speed Champions sets on our list, the offerings are plentiful. You'll find buildable cars from brands such as Bugatti, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG, Ferrari, Ford, Chevrolet, Porsche, and more.

If you're looking for diversity, you'll want to shop LEGO Speed Champions. You'll find classic cars, sports cars, endurance cars, iconic cars, and race cars. In other words, there's something for everyone, compared to the more niche offerings from LEGO Technic.
