STI Competing in 24 Hours of Nurburgring With 2011 WRX STI TS

Subaru will be represented by Subaru Tecnica International (STI) at this year’s 24-hour of Nurburgring race. Rolling in their new and improved 2011 WRX STI “ts”, the STI team has been very busy testing and tuning in order to compete in the SP3t class. Most recently the STI NBR Challenge 2011, the nickname for the race car, did some testing out at Fuji Speedway.

The car will be powered by a 2.0 Boxer DOHC with a twin scroll turbo pushing out 335-hp and 340 ft-lbs of torque. It’ll be mated to a 6-speed transmission with a front, center and rear LSD. Suspension will be handled by Bilstein while it’ll race on Dunlop tires wrapped around BBS wheels.

Obviously a huge collection of STI products will be on the race car, from clutch and flywheel to trunk spoiler and drive shaft.

Subaru Tecnica International Inc.. (STI) will participate in the 39th ADAC Zurich 24h-Race (24-Hour Race Nürburgring) with a Subaru WRX STI tS (CFP), prepared by the STI itself. The event takes place from Thursday 23 to Sunday, June 26, 2011. Subaru started construction of a car that was first operational in 2009. Now, in 2011 with the third part, they aim at a win in the SP3T class.

The combination of a Grand Prix circuit (5.1 km) and the ‘Nordschleife’ (20.8 km) of the Nürburgring a very special circuit. Grand Prix racing in the area usually DTM and F1 cars, while car makers from around the world use the Nordschleife test sessions in order to optimize their product. The whole is largely a tough road race with a height difference of 300m and over 170 turns. The Nürburgring 24-hour race is known for more than 200 vehicles every year to attract among the best european touring cars. STI 139 last year drove laps (about 3527km) in 24 hours, 152.2 km more than in 2009, finishing fourth in class SP3T reserved least 2 liters turbo-powered cars and 24th overall.

This competition car for 2011, based on the Subaru WRX STI tS, is primarily designed for weight saving, thanks to the 4-door body has improved aerodynamics. The EJ20 turbo engine obviously has the latest modifications. The car will already be deployed in eenVLN contest on May 14 to be tested before the final adjustments to start within 24 hours in June. Like previous years, Hideharu Tatsumi, General Manager of the STI’s “Vehicle Experiment Department,” the lead in developing the car as a team manager. As for the drivers, it is done again call on the experience that Toshihiro Yoshida has participated since 2008 every 24 hours. Besides the English and Japanese will be Marcel Dutchman Carlo Van Dam finish the endurance race. Both have also participated in the last 24 hours for Subaru. Driver No. 4, Kouta Sasaki in the Super GT GT300 driven a Legacy, is currently preparing itself to meet all requirements for participation requirements so he can advance to participate in a VLN race
