Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Celebrations Announced

Porsche’s iconic sportscar is turning the big 5-0, and the German company has some major plans to celebrate all year long.

To start, Porsche will hold a “Retro Classics” show in Stuttgart, where four special Porsche models and prototypes will be on display at the company’s museum. Expect to see an early-model 911 Turbo Coupe, a 911 Cabriolet study from 1981, a 1997 street version 911 GT1 and the pre-series Type 754 T7 at the show.

In addition to the display at the Porsche Museum, an original 1967 Porsche 911 will be going on a world tour spanning five continents and making stops at Pebble Beach, Shanghai, Goodwood, U.K., Paris and Australia. Expect this vintage 911 to also make appearances at various world fairs, rallies and races. Those interested can track the car’s progress at http://porsche.com/follow-911.

Finally, in the summer, the Porsche Museum will have another special exhibit called “50 years of the Porsche 911” which feature the history and development of the 911. There will also be a special edition book called “911×911.”
