The Jaguar F-Type will be on sale soon as the brand’s first true two seat sports car since the E-Type ended in 1974, but buyers will have to take it in a soft top… for now.

Good news could be just around the corner for coupe enthusiasts because patent images are offering a peek at what that version of the car will look like. Perhaps most interestingly, the car looks very close to the original C-X16 concept.

It will feature a raked, swooping rear roofline and according to German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, the hard top will herald a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine sourced from the Range Rover Evoque. That engine would offer 240 hp.

This could be one of even more variants for the F-Type considering the concept version came as a hybrid.

Jaguar North American CEO Andy Goss offered some hints about the car’s future during a conversation with AutoGuide on the sidelines of the Chicago Auto Show in February.

“From our perspective, F-Type will have a cadence of product introduction that will recognize the fact that you’ll have to have auto, you’ll have to have manual transmissions, you know… Engine variants will be really valid as well,” he said.

At the time, Goss couldn’t offer details on when that would happen, but Auto Motor und Sport reports the hardtop will be unveiled in 2014.
