More than a VW Eos but not quite a drop-top Audi A5, the very-new A3 Cabriolet will soon be on sale in North America.

Previous A3 Cabriolet models (yes, such a thing did exist) were only offered in Europe, with only the five-door hatchback model exported to North America. Starting next year, however, Audi plans to expand its A3 range with the addition of a conventional sedan.

This new convertible version will also be offered on our shores, as has been confirmed to AutoGuide in a tweet by Audi Canada, which reads, “Good news for sun-lovers… The A3 Cabriolet will be coming to Canada!”

Does that mean it’s also destined for U.S. soil? Most certainly, as it’s highly unlikely such a car would see sales in the limited market of Canada without also being offered in the larger and more convertible-friendly United States.

Powering the car is likely to be a new turbocharged 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine making around 180 hp, while a larger 2.0-liter engine could also be offered. The latter will also be found in the S3 Cabriolet delivering as much as 300 hp, though it’s not yet clear if that car will be available in North America.

Look for pricing to slot in at just under $40,000.
