Based on a new platform being developed in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz, Infiniti is looking to bring a seven-seat crossover into its lineup.

According to Automobile, the platform which the companies are jointly working on, known internally as JC1,can support up to ten different body styles, three of which interest Infiniti. Those are a small hatchback to replace the Q30, a four-door compact sedan to take on the Audi A3 and finally a new seven-seat crossover that will essentially be a long-wheelbase version of the Mercedes GLA.

The recently released Infiniti Q30 Concept is the first vehicle to result from the Mercedes-Infiniti tie up, though it represents what is happening on the compact side of things. The platform is supposed to be ready by 2017, and it will also underpin the next-generation of Mercedes A-Class and B-Class.

All of the Infiniti vehicles based on this platform are expected to be manufactured in Mexico.
