Tesla Model S is Canada's Best-Selling Electric Car

The Tesla Model S is Canada’s best-selling electric so far this year.

Last year, the Model S helped Tesla gain 20-percent EV market penetration in Canada, but that figure has risen to 43 percent this year, through the third quarter. Compared to other automakers that offer electric vehicles, Tesla has an impressive lead.

Nissan Canada has 35-percent market share in the EV market (down from 40 percent in 2012) while Mitsubishi holds 11 percent (down from 31 percent). Mercedes-Benz with its Smart Fortwo carries 8-percent market share while Ford has 3 percent of the pie. Toyota Canada holds the least amount of Canada’s electric-vehicle market with just 0.1 percent.
