Tesla is continuing to take the automotive market by storm.

The American automaker enjoyed 59 percent growth in third-quarter Tesla Model S sales compared to last year, moving a total of 9,156 units. That also means it’s the best-selling large luxury sedan in the U.S., besting models like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series. Tesla claims it is responsible for nearly a third of all sales in the segment, which according to the company’s data, sold a total of 28,856 units in the third quarter of 2016.

The Tesla Model X is also performing quite well, selling 5,428 units for a six-percent share in the luxury SUV market. It’s the most units of the Model X that Tesla has sold in a quarter after production issues hampered early deliveries. Although the Tesla Model X outsold Porsche and Land Rover SUVs, it still trails behind seven other models from various automakers like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Cadillac, Volvo, Audi and Lexus.

very misleading headline. There are many luxury sedans that sold more units. What is meant is it outsold other large flaghship sedans like the S class- even though it's starting price is far lower than the S or even the 7.
